Every Sunday, I have a ritual.
It mainly involves watching a few episodes of Madam Secretary, taking our dogs to the beach or the park, and stopping for ice cream or a bubble tea, depending on my mood.
But my favorite part of the day is when I take my Sunday shower.
We have four or five shampoos in our bathroom, but the Sunday Shampoo from Bumble & Bumble is special. I bought it as a once-weekly deep-clean for my thin, fine hair. It smells fresh and a little herbaceous, and honestly, it reminds me of sun-dried bedsheets.
I look forward to it each week. As I stand under the hot water, I imagine any stress, worry, anxiety, and negativity from the previous week running down my body and into the drain.
We get to start over every Sunday, reborn and refreshed for a new week ahead.
Now, though, I’ve started sneaking the Sunday shampoo mid-week. Whenever I have a terrible day, I hop into the shower, wash the stress out of my hair, and imagine a sunny garden with laundry waving in a sunny breeze.
It still works, thankfully. I leave the shower with a clearer head and cleaner hair.
If anything, I’m grateful that we get to start over whenever we want to.
We don’t have to wait for Sunday, or back to school, or next January 1, or our birthdays, or any other time to start anew.
We can start over on a random Tuesday afternoon. Thank goodness for that.
